An AFT 1493 Teach-In to Address Systemic Inequities
Thu Sep 10, 2020
12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
50 years ago, in May 1970, Cañada College students and faculty set a precedent for protest with a large scale teach-in for peace and racial justice. With classes canceled by the SMCCCD Chancellor and Governor Reagan following the shooting of students protesting the Vietnam War at Kent State University, teachers and students organized a multi-day symposium attended by hundreds and covered by the press. CSM students and employees marched on City Hall, while hundreds of Skyline College students and faculty gathered for dialog.
It’s time again to gather and challenge the inequities in our system.
Join us virtually on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at noon as we build awareness and activism around labor and social justice issues, empower our students, staff and faculty members to organize for change, and demand justice for our part-time faculty who deserve equal pay for equal work!
Students: Support friends, classmates and instructors as they speak out about injustice. Learn how other young workers are organizing for change.
Faculty: Bring your class in lieu of your regular class meeting (relate the teach-in to class content) OR offer credit for attendance. Take advantage of this opportunity to infuse your curriculum with a social justice issue that affects students and faculty at SMCCCD! Support your part-time colleagues in their struggle to earn a living wage and equitable working conditions.
