Mana Film 140 Presents: Fruits of Labor

Sponsored by the CSM Mana Program & Diversity in Action Group (DIAG)
Wed Feb 26, 2020
12:30 pm - 4:00 pm

As part of the Mana Learning Community collaboration with FILM 140, film directors Ashley Solis and Emily Cohen Ibañez will be coming to speak in FILM 140: Contemporary World Cinema to show some scenes from their film Fruits of Labor and discuss their co-writing process, their experience as fellows of the Indigenous Media 4th World Lab, and their experience making collaboratively authored films. Here is a short synopsis of their current film in progress:

Ashley, a Mexican-American teenager dreams of graduating high school, when increased ICE raids in her community threaten to separate her family and force her to become the breadwinner of her family. Incorporating elements of theatre, FRUITS OF LABOR is a lyrical medication on adolescence, nature, and ancestral forces. The film asks, what does it mean for a working poor youth to come into her own power in the wealthiest nation in the world? The event will take place on campus and will be open to the public.
