College 1 Institute - CSM Faculty & Staff Workshop
Are you interested in learning more about strategies for supporting first-year students in the classroom? How to infuse metacognition and growth-mindset strategies into your lessons? Collaborating and learning from other faculty across campus? Please consider attending the College 1 Institute.
This summer Year One is hosting the College 1 Institute, a 2.5-day workshop designed to foster an environment of inclusivity among educators across various disciplines through collaboration, with a focus on educational equity practices and frameworks specific to serving first-year community college students. This workshop series prepares faculty for teaching College 1 (IDST 110) which is a 3-unit, CSU transferable course that is part of Year One, CSM’s first-year experience program.
This course assists new, first-time college students in making a successful transition to college life. IDST 110 assists new, first-time college students in making a successful transition to college by providing opportunities to explore college student mindset, identity, habits and expectations. Through a shared reading experience and series of common assignments, students develop critical reading strategies, information literacy awareness and skills, and establish a community of first-year support. Course content will be informed by the discipline expertise of the instructional faculty.
Coffee and lunch provided. Space is limited. Faculty will be compensated at their special rate.
*College 1 Institute attendance is required by those interested in teaching College 1 in Fall 2018.
